Meet Clayton & Brewill’s newest partner: a Q&A with Adam Rostance

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Rostance, a long-standing member of the team, as the newest partner at Clayton & Brewill, following Neil South’s retirement.

In this Q&A, we spoke to Adam about his career at Clayton & Brewill and what the future will look like in his new role as partner at the firm.

How long have you worked at Clayton & Brewill?

I first joined the firm as an AAT apprentice in June 2012. After working at the firm for a year and a half I decided to take six months off to travel around Australia before returning in June 2014 to complete my ACA training and I’ve been with the firm ever since!

How has your role evolved since joining Clayton & Brewill?

I initially worked on small accounts jobs and manual bookkeeping in order to help build up my experience a I had not worked in an accountancy practice before joining the firm. Once I had learnt more, I worked in the compliance department full time, preparing accounts and tax returns for small companies and sole traders.

I then transferred to the audit department as an audit junior before working my way up to the role of accounts and audit manager. In this role, I grew a portfolio of fantastic clients over time, ranging from small sole traders to large group companies.

In the almost 13 years I have been with Clayton & Brewill, there has been a natural progression from accounts and audit manager to director and now to partner; the company has always supported me with this.

What specific areas of accountancy do you specialise in?

While I am a bit of an all-rounder when it comes to the industry, I have a strong background in statutory reporting, MI reporting, audit and tax. I also have specific expertise in the preparation of group company consolidations under FRS102. Over the last few years, we have seen a growth in clients for which consolidations are required and so this has been particularly useful.

As the financial audit evolves, I have taken the steps to keep up with the changing landscape and develop my knowledge, so that I can continue to provide our clients with a comprehensive and professional service.

What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of your career so far?

Completing my ACA exams was a significant highlight for me. It felt like a big achievement after having to juggle work, exams and my personal life in order to complete it.

Another rewarding aspect of my career has been having the opportunity to build strong, long-term relationships with clients – some of my current clients are ones I began working with in my first year at the firm!

What does this promotion mean to you both personally and professionally?

This appointment has been a huge achievement in my life and something I have strived for since I initially became ACA qualified.

I felt right from the start that Clayton & Brewill was the perfect fit for me, with its mix of both professionalism and a personal approach to the industry and I am thrilled that I have been able to develop my career here.

What will your new responsibilities as partner involve?

In addition to taking on many new clients and helping to run the business, I will be managing our staff training and CPD. This will involve overseeing the progression of our trainee staff from AAT up to ACA and ensuring that all CPD is in line with the current rules and regulations of the industry.

How do you see your role influencing the future direction of Clayton & Brewill?

The firm is already well positioned within the market, and I hope to help maintain this as well as its positive reputation. I am also looking forward to growing my client portfolio over the first few years of my being in this role, as I continue to provide the high quality, personal service that Clayton & Brewill is known for.
